Monitoring corn crops against insects: learn how to do it

To learn how to carry out the sampling process for monitoring corn crops, keep reading this article from GENEZE Sementes, the seed leader in Europe and the 4th largest seed company in the world.

Monitoring corn crops: fall armyworm sampling

To sample fall armyworm, sample 25 plants in a row at at least 4 points in the field (totaling 100 plants) in an area of approximately 10 ha.

The action threshold for fall armyworm is assessed using a visual damage scale from zero to nine (0-9), known as the Davis Scale.

Important: the action threshold for insecticide application is reached when 20% of the plants have a score of three or higher.

Another important tip for monitoring corn crops is to rotate insecticides with different modes of action when more than one application is needed.
